Our Story

Professional catering with a personal touch

A Legacy of excellence

We have been serving way more than food for over 40 years. Our mission – and our family tradition – has been to delight clients with exceptional food and service. This began when Emily’s father, “Brownie” Simpson, founded Kansas City Catering with a simple yet profound initiative: providing outstanding culinary experiences with impeccable service. Starting with just one van, catering only to small groups of people, Brownie grew the business into one of the premier catering providers in the Kansas City region. Today, we proudly serve large-scale events across the Metro, including conventions with upwards of 5,000 people.

Our family’s legacy of culinary excellence extends back to Brownie’s mother, a collegiate Home Economics professor, and forward to a third generation linking arms in our endeavor. This commitment to excellence continues to shape our work today. In Brownie’s words, “We love to serve people, and we take great pride in trying to always do a flawless job. The true strength of our company lies in our employees and their ability to be flexible with our clients’ needs. This is the kind of business that you build one client at a time – it is all about people and our ability to please them. That challenge alone continues to motivate us.”

A commitment to excellence

Emily grew up surrounded by family members who loved to serve delicious food and bring people together. She watched her family pour passion and thoughtful preparation into every dish and every event. This instilled within her a love for creating memorable experiences for others, and a passion for carrying on the tradition of excellence and flavor that has been at the core of this business from day one. She strives to honor her family legacy while introducing fresh ideas that celebrate the joy good food and great service can bring.

Emily and her husband Chris currently own and operate Kansas City Catering. Alongside their son, Isaac, and their dedicated team of consummate professionals, they pour their pride and passion into every event. Chris has been a part of the business since 1993, working part-time throughout college before stepping into the role of Assistant Catering Manager in 1999. He spent several years in the kitchen, before becoming a permanent fixture in the sales department.

Their experience across all aspects of the business ensures that Kansas City Catering remains dedicated to the values that have guided us from the start – exceptional food, impeccable service, and a legacy of excellence in both quality and customer relations. We are so grateful to our family, and to the many other dedicated friends, professionals, and partners who have helped to make our American dream come true.
